Maeve Binchy
Maeve Binchy was born in Dublin in 1940.
Her story collections are Central Line (Dublin, Ward River Press, 1977/London, Quartet, 1978); Victoria Line (Ward River Press/Quartet, 1980); Dublin 4 (Ward River Press/London, Century, 1983); and The Lilac Bus (Ward River Press, 1984/Century, 1986).
Her novels are Light A Penny Candle (London, Century, 1982/New York, Viking, 1983); Echoes (Century, 1984/New York, Viking, 1985); Firefly Summer (London, Century Hutchinson, 1987/New York, Delacorte, 1988); Silver Wedding (Century Hutchinson, 1988/Delacorte, 1989); Circle of Friends (London, Random Century, 1990/Delacorte, 1991); The Copper Beech (London, Orion, 1992/Delacorte, 1992); The Glass Lake (Orion, 1994); Quentins (Orion, 2002); Nights of Rain and Stars (Orion, 2004); Tara Road (Orion, 2005); and Heart and Soul (Orion, 2008).
She has also published essays and selections from her column in The Irish Times. Her play, End of Term, was staged in The Peacock Stage of the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, in 1976, and her television play, Deeply Regretted By, won two Irish Jacob’s Awards and the Best Script Award at the Prague Film Festival. Her novels, Circle of Friends, and Tara Road have been filmed, while Lilac Bus and Echoes have been made for TV.
She lives in County Dublin.
